FOUR TEAMS CLASH IN A CENTRAL REGION TOURNAMENT

Four teams from the midlands province will on Saturday clash in a Women Football Tournament at Mkoba stadium in Gweru. Zvishavane Pirates, Chipembere Queens, Shumba Queens and Shurugwi Queens will clash in the tournament which is jointly organised by the Midlands Show Society and the Zimbabwe Women Football Central Region.

Chairman of the organising committee Patrick Chademana said the tournament was mooted after Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa donated $1000 seed money for the empowerment of the girl child.

“Vice President Mnangagwa was excited by women soccer teams at last year's Midlands Show and he gave us money which we then used to start this tournament to develop women football in the region," said Chademana.

“We are still to come up with prize money for the tournament as we are still waiting for some pledges. The idea behind this is to give the girl child a platform to showcase her talent,"

Chipembere Queens will take on Zvishavane Pirates in the first semi final, while Shumba Queens p?ay against Shurugwi Queens in the other semi final.
