Former Caps United coach Mark Harrison is the new technical director at Baroka FC meaning the Englishman has been involved with 11 clubs during the six years he has spent working in African football.

The 56-year-old Harrison quit Makepekepe in June 2015 for Botswana’s Township Rollers and now he is in South Africa where he has taken the TD job at newly promoted ABSA Premiership side Baroka FC.

Such has been Harrison’s nomadic tendencies that he has already been involved in all of South Africa’s top three tiers of football from the PSL, NFD and the ABC Motsepe League.

Since  returning to South Africa exactly six years ago Harrison has also worked in Zimbabwe and Botswana.

He returned to South Africa via Mpumalanga Black Aces as goalkeeper coach at the beginning of 2011 before eventually taking over from Paul Dolezar eight weeks later.

He couldn’t save Aces from the drop to the first division in the six games that he was in charge of at the end of that season.

Next up was a job as head coach at Mitchell’s Plain – Santos’ feeder team that played in the third tier league – starting off in August 2011 and then leaving three months later for the then first division club African Warriors where he spent six months.

From there he went to Port Elizabeth based Bay Stars who also played third tier football and spent seven months there before being lured by Chippa United where he again went down with the club to the first division.

Being the journeyman that he is Harrison then dumped Chippa for Golden Arrows where he was sacked after just 10 games in charge leaving the Durban club at the brink of the drop.

A month after being shown the door at Arrows he astonishingly landed the assistant job at Free State Stars.

His next job was at Black Leopards but then resigned after just five games in favour of a move across the nearby Limpopo River heading to CAPS United from where he again crossed the border to Botswana to join Township Rollers.

He has spent the last 18 months with Rollers and arrives at Baroka having been at the tail end of two failed relegation battles at Aces (2010/11) and Chippa (2012/13) while the ship was already sinking when he was pushed out at Arrows.

How long he stays at Baroka remains anyone’s guess.

Baroka – who are bottom of the PSL standings at the moment – resume training on Wednesday.
