Foolish Rooney Could Cost Caps United

Ronald Chitiyo’s foolish decision to remove his shirt while celebrating his goal against FC Lioli in a CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg at the National Sports last month could haunt Caps United on Sunday.

Chitiyo – the most creative player at Caps United so far – will miss Sunday’s crunch first round second leg clash against TP Mazembe due to suspension.

He was needlessly booked against Lioli for removing his shirt and picked up another yellow against TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi last Sunday.

The match ended 1-1 and Chitiyo provided the assist for goal scorer Abbas Amidu.

CAF Champions rules and regulations state that if a player accumulates two yellow cards he misses the next match.

Although Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe played the absence of “Rooney”, the diminutive player’s influence at Makepekepe has been immense since joining from Harare City at the close of last year.

Chitembwe would definitely have needed the ball artistry of Chitiyo as Caps United are seeking an outright win against Mazembe on Sunday.

A goalless draw will also do for Makepekepe.
