Festival Gather Momentum
ORGANISERS of the Dairibord Schools Rugby festival say they won’t be any additional time each time there is an injury at the festival.
The festival which runs from this Sunday April 30 to May 6 will have two match officials.
Senior teams will play for 30 minutes while juniors are also expected to endure 25 minutes apiece.
Walter Njowa, a member of the referees association, confirmed the decision.
“We have been instructed to stick to the 30 minutes each during the matches and there won’t be no additional time in any match.
“This has been a major concern from previous editions where most matches would be affected so to avoid such we will be sticking to the 30 minutes given,” he said.
Njowa added: “We are also introducing female referees who will be officiating all the girls’ matches as a way to empower everyone. The whole aim is to generate the sport’s interest as a whole.”
Meanwhile the opening day is expected to see hosts Prince Edward Tigers 2nd team battling it on the Jubilee field with rivals St Johns 2nd.
The match, which has always been a close battle in previous editions, will set the pace for the festival.
On the girls side, Girls High School have a date with Goromonzi whilst the bullish Vainona will meet Roosevelt.
