FC Platinum Show Good Gesture Ahead Of Final

FC Platinum have replaced the five Harare City match balls that were punctured by their supporters during the Chibuku Super Cup semi final as they build up towards a second title in three years.

Pure Platinum Play beat the Sunshine Boys 3-0 at Mandava a fortnight ago to book a place in the final where they face off against Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Baobab on Saturday.

Harare City were the home team in that semi final and technically provided the match balls.

Some unruly FC Platinum supporters deflated all City match balls in an apparent indication they wanted their own team’s match balls to be played.

However, in a letter written to the Premier Soccer League by Harare City football club chairman Alois Masepe on Thursday afternoon, the club confirms that FC Platinum bought the match balls.

“This letter serves to inform you that FC Platinum bought 5 new match balls and handed them to HCFC as replacements to the match balls that were punctured at Mandava Stadium during the recent Chibuku semi-final match.

“The gesture is welcome and commendable,” read the letter dated November 3.

“As stated in our letter of complaint, we at HCFC, are very clear that the leadership at FC Platinum is composed of persons of integrity and good standing who seriously desire to develop professional and modern soccer.

“However, they need to pinpoint and weed out some unruly and hooligan elements in their membership.

“All clubs have some few bad apples in their baskets; it is therefore important for clubs to take responsibility and accountability in cases of misconduct by their supporters.

“It is in this light that we applaud and cheer the stance taken by FC Platinum.”
