FC Platinum Extends Lead

FC  Platinum finally exorcised the ghost that had threatened to derail their title surge at home with a 1-0 win over How Mine at Mandava stadium.

FC Platinum had gone for a number of games without a win at home which had seen teams behind them closing the gap.

Walter Musona gave the Pure Platinum Play renewed confidence with a goal on the half hour mark.

Musona rushed on to a long ball and beat Munyaradzi Diya with a chip before heading into an open net.

“This is an important win for us because we were able to maintain our shape after scoring the goal.

“We also managed to defend well as well as attack and we could have increased the lead had we utilised our chances," said Mapeza.

Charles Sibanda and Makai Kawashu had opportunities to increase the lead late in the first half but lacked precision in front of goal.

How Mine who recorded their third consecutive defeat tried hard to come back into the match but could not get past the impressive Petros Mhari.

Kelvin Kaindu was disappointed with the result.

“It’s unfortunate that we lost another match which we should have at least got something.

“We had more corner kicks and offsides showing we were more offensive than our opponents.

“We now need to regroup and focus on the next match," said Kaindu.

FC Platinum opened a four point lead ahead of second placed Caps United who take on Chicken Inn at the National Sports stadium on Sunday.

At Barbourfields stadium Tsholotsho resurrected their faint hopes for survival with a slender 1-0 over Border Strikers.

Ngezi Platinum returned to winning ways at home with a 1-0 over Bulawayo City.
