Everton engage Musanhu

FOUR months after getting his scouting badge in the UK, former Dynamos centreback Chamu Musanhu has landed his first biggest job in this field as he has been engaged by English Premiership soccer side Everton.

In February, Musanhu attended a Level 2 Scouting Course under the Professional Football Scouts Association (PFSA).

The PFSA Level 2 Course is accredited by NCFE (the national awarding body) and is the most popular option in the UK.

The PFSA Level 2 Course has been undertaken by many ex-professional footballers and current heads of recruitment in the UK to further their knowledge of talent identification. And after having attained his first scouting badge with the PFSA in February this year, former Zimbabwe international defender Musanhu (41), who is now based in Liverpool, was lured by English Premiership side Everton to be one of their scouts.

Musanhu told The Herald earlier this week that he’s now got a job of scouting for Everton. “I was officially appointed (as one of Everton’s scouts) last week and it is one of the biggest things that has ever happened to me in my coaching career here in the UK,” said Musanhu, who had an induction at Everton yesterday.

His new job will entail him to identify talented young players in the UK and recommend them to coaches at Everton for either the team’s academy or senior side.

Everton recently appointed Dutch football legend Ronald Koeman as their new manager after firing Spain’s Roberto Martinez. And Koeman is now set to work with Zimbabwean Musanhu as one of his scouts at the Toffees.

Musanhu, who left Zimbabwe to settle in the UK at the beginning of the 2000s, is also helping in coaching a “Zimbabwe Under-17” team that is currently taking part in an African Cup of Nations (UK) Under-17 youth tournament.

The tournament got underway last Saturday and it saw the team reaching the semi-finals where they will today face Nigeria. And according to Marshall Gore, who runs Team Zimbabwe (UK), they recently invited Musanhu to be one of the coaches of their Under-17 team for this year’s African Cup of Nations (UK) Under-17 youth tournament, where he has another former Warriors player Kennedy Chihuri in the technical department.

“Chamu (Musanhu) is one of our coaches and contrary to earlier Press reports, he is not the project founder,” said Gore.
