East Is Best...Kamusoko
Former Dynamos and FC Platinum midfielder Thabani Kamusoko, one of the first Zimbabwean players to join the increasingly fashionable Tanzanian top flight league, thinks the Ligi Kuu Bara will soon become the destination of choice for local players.
Traditionally, most Zimbabwean players have trekked to the South African Absa Premiership but the trend could be changing as the Tanzanian league has begun to attract a number of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League players.
Kamusoko and his former teammate at FC Platinum Donald “Dombo” Ngoma were the pioneers of the new phenomenon when they joined Ligi Kuu Bara reigning champions Young Africans at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season.
Former FC Platinum’s Zambian import Obrey Chirwa then followed, so did Caps United utility player Method Mwanjali who is also now at Yanga.
Highlanders’ hotshot winger Bruce Kangwa left for Azam FC last Tuesday and he was on the same flight with Caps United forward Brian Abbas Amidu who is also trying his luck with the same club.
The 28-year-old Kamusoko, who is enjoying his stay at Young Africans where he won the best foreign player for the 2015/2016 Ligi Kuu Bara season, foresees more movement of Zimbabweans to East Africa where sources say monthly salaries are almost $10 000.
“I do not want to say the Tanzanian league is very comfortable, neither can I say it is not but I think that time when players move to one league in numbers has come.
“Just like that time when most of our fellow Zimbabwean players moved to South Africa, something like it is the new destination,” said Kamusoko in an interview with Sports Zone Tuesday afternoon.
Kamusoko can’t complain about his stay in Tanzania.
“Tanzania is okay…can’t complain but the league is very tough,” he said.
The midfield kingpin has also been following the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with keen interest and thinks his former side FC Platinum have a bright chance of winning their first-ever championship.
Pure Platinum Play lead the log standings with 33 points, 3 clear of second placed Highlanders who play a catch-up game against Triangle tomorrow to complete the first half of the 30-game Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
“They (FC Platinum) have a chance of winning it but the second half of the season is very difficult.
“Highlanders are also playing well, Dynamos and Caps United are big clubs that cannot be ruled out of any league race,” said Kamusoko.
