Dynamos Rookies Stun CAPS
Kudzanayi Dhemere's 60th minute goal from inside the box was the difference between a rookie powered Dynamos and a full strength CAPS United as Dembare made their way into the final of the 2018 Zimbabwe National Army Charity shield with a 1-0 win over Makepekepe at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Dynamos endured a turbulent week building up to this game as players refused to train in protest over outstanding salaries and winning bonuses from the 2017 season prompting coach Lloyd Mutasa to field a largely inexperienced side that had stand in captain Marshal Machazane and Godfrey Mukambi as the only experienced players.
The game started well for both teams as they knocked the ball around with much confidence but failing to create meaningful chances and had to go to the half time break deadlocked 0-0.
The Green Machine came back for the second half with a bit of urgency in their play but it was Dynamos who found the back of the net with a well worked move engineered by Cleopas Kapupurika on the left side. The former FC Platinum player dribbled past Method Mwanjale and laid the ball on the path of Dhemere who took a touch before picking his spot from inside the box on the hour mark to give Dembare the advantage.
The Dynamos rookies held on until the final whistle to win 1-0, and they will play either Highlanders or Chicken Inn in the final.
The Chicken Inn/Highlanders encounter will be continued on Monday morning after it was called off in the 55th minute with Chicken Inn leading 1-0 with a Clemence Matawu sixth minute goal. The match was called off due to heavy rains that made the pitch at Barbourfields stadium unplayable as it was water-logged. Chicken Inn will also continue with ten men after Divine Lunga received a straight red card in the 29th minute.
ZNA Charity Shield Semi-finals Results:
Dynamos 1-0 CAPS United (60' Kudzanayi Dhemere)
