Dynamos Is Not Personal Property - Mucherahowa
DYNAMOS’ most successful captain Memory “Mwendamberi” Mucherahowa, the man who led DeMbare to the CAF Champions League final in 1998, wants his former club to be a community owned team and “not an individual’s property.”
Mucherahowa spoke to SportsZone from his United Kingdom base Friday afternoon in the wake of reports that Dynamos president Keni Mubaiwa is calling it quits over an alleged impasse with the club’s board of directors led by Bernard Marriot.
Mubaiwa’s decision to fire assistant coach Murape Murape a fortnight ago was reversed by the board after just 24 hours, a development that left the lanky administrator with egg on his face and many doubting his influence at country’ most successful team.
And Marriot, one of the surviving founder members of The Glamour Boys, has of late been accused of running Dynamos as a personal property by a splinter group of founder members led by Ernest Kamba.
Mucherahowa has been reading about the events from his UK base and his heart bleeds for the club that gave him fame in the 1990s.
“Get me right, I am not siding with anybody but I think Dynamos should be a community team where everyone who loves it should contribute towards its success. That includes former players and supporters,” said Mucherahowa.
“Right now it’s as if it is for an individual. I need to see Dynamos turning into a very big project.”
Already, a shadowy group of former players is allegedly pushing for the club’s most successful coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa, who now coaches at ZPC Kariba, to return as chairman of the beleaguered club.
Former chairman Lincoln Mutasa has also been touted as a potential successor of Mubaiwa, should the latter confirm his departure.
Others want Chidzambwa to replace Lloyd Mutasa as coach following the club’s dismal performance in the 2016 season.
Dynamos are out of both the Chibuku Super Cup and the league race.
They are currently fifth on the log and 13 points behind log leaders FC Platinum with five games to go.
Efforts to get a comment from both Marriot and Mubaiwa were fruitless as their respective mobile phones were not reachable.
