DeMbare offloads Mutuma, Linyama
DYNAMOS striker Rodreck Mutuma is on the firing line as he has been named among the players to be offloaded by the Glamour Boys in a pre-season cleanout targeting old horses.
Mutuma, conspicuous by his absence when the giants regrouped at Motor Action Sports Club to begin preparations on Monday, will not be part of the side after coach Lloyd Mutasa hinted he is not in his plans for this year.
Dynamos have already released vice-captain Stephen Alimenda and have also blacklisted defender Sydney Linyama and veteran forward Jacob Muzokomba.
The club’s president Kenny Mubaiwa confirmed the development after their meeting with the technical team Tuesday afternoon to lay down plans for the new season.
Mubaiwa however could not release the names of the affected players although a close source said Alimenda, Mutuma, Muzokomba and Linyama were the victims.
“We had a meeting with the technical team and basically they were giving us a report on the state of the team and how they would want to prepare for the new season.
“They also reported on the players that have left and the trials they conducted last week. They are also still working on their squad and to that effect some senior players will be released.
“These guys still have running contracts with the club but the coaches have hinted they are not in their plans this year. So we will have to work with what the coaches recommend because what we want at the end of the day are results,” said Mubaiwa.
The reasons for the transfer-listing were not given but Mutuma and Linyama have for a long time been marked as the bad boys in the squad because of disciplinary issues.
The duo did not play a big part in the campaign last year when Dynamos stumbled to a fifth place finish in the race. Mutuma, who two years ago was released by David Mandigora before crossing the Great Divide to CAPS United and then back to Dynamos, always had clashes with the technical of Mutasa and Murape Murape.
Linyama on the other hand was notorious for his truant behavior, which made him unavailable for several matches, when he was needed the most following the departure for former captain Augustine Mbara to South Africa and the injury to Elisha Muroiwa.
Muzokomba joined the club during the mid-season alongside Marshal Machazane and Takunda Sadiki on a one year deal but for all his reputation and experience, the 30-year old apparently failed to raise his game at the Glamour Boys.
Dynamos have so far lost key players from last season like Brett Amidu to FC Platinum, Godknows Murwira and Dominic Mukandi who have joined Ngezi Platinum Stars.
They are also likely to lose Obey Mwerahari who together with Masimba Mambare and Warriors goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva are still to renew their contracts.
Because of the uncertainties, DeMbare are likely to have a new look squad this season. Mubaiwa said the former champions have been severely hamstrung on the transfer market because of their weak financial position. Nonetheless, they are expecting the club to reclaim its status as the top team in Zimbabwe.
