Delta Renewing PSL Sponsorship

Premier Soccer League acting chairman Kenny Mubaiwa says they have agreed with Delta beverages to renew their sponsorship of the league.

PSL and Delta have been engaged in sponsorship renewal talks following the end of a six year deal last December but the talks were being hampered by boardroom squabbles between PSL and ZIFA towards the end of 2016. The squabbles made Delta’s marketing executive Maxen Karombo unhappy and at one time he indicated they were not negotiating for sponsorship renewal with PSL that was facing a leadership crisis following the suspension of Chairman Peter Dube by ZIFA.

After Saturday’s Annual general meeting, Mubaiwa said they will put pen to paper with Delta Beverages on Wednesday.

“Delta will disclose the figures of the sponsorship package but we are only expecting the figures to go up not down.

“We will finalise everything but they have assured us that they will sponsor the league as well as the knock out Cup like they have been doing before. We are even expecting a new knockout tournament Cup but the package details would be announced before end of week,” said Mubaiwa.

The annual indaba also deliberated on the club licensing system which is being enforced by ZIFA. Mubaiwa said during the indaba they urged the clubs to comply with the minimum requirements.

“It is a compulsory licensing system, a directive from CAF so clubs have to comply.

“What we only gave them is time to work on some of requirements and put their houses in order,” he said.
