Deflategate At Mandava.....As FC Platinum Beats Harare City
FC Platinum cruised through to the final of the Chibuku Super Cup albeit in another controversial manner over Harare City beating the Sunshine Boys 3-0 at Mandava stadium.
The clash was reminiscent of the 2014 final in which Platinum won owing to a controversial equaliser at the dearth but this time around it was the off field antics which took some flake off their victory.
Technically Harare City were the home team according to the draw and their balls were in use but FC Platinum fans deflated all the five Harare City balls until theirs were to be used.
The diabolical psychological move which had undertones of beliefs in juju worked in frustrating the Harare City camp with their coach Moses Chunga visibly frustrated early in the first half.
Despite the off field shenanigans, FC platinum pressed hard in the early stages with Harare City goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube being forced to make two crucial saves to deny Rodwell Chinyengetere and Nqobizitha Masuku.
Centerback Hastings Chapusha made sure his side avoided conceding early when he cleared off the line a header from Gift Belo.
With FC Platinum continuing to probe, it was only a matter of time before Harare City defence gave in when Chinyengetere opened the scoring with a beautiful lobbed effort over Dube after 33 minutes .
FC Platinum continued with their momentum in the second half with Charles Sibanda who had come on for Tarisai Rukanda doubling the lead in the 78th minute. Sibanda benefited from a long ball from the back which beat City defender Raymond Uchena with a bounce and the striker chipped the ball past an outdrawn Dube.
Marshal Mudehwe put the icing on the cake, eight minutes from fulltime when he beat an offside trap on the right before slotting the ball past Dube to give a huge relief to coach Norman Mapeza who was at the receiving end of the wrath of fans after a 1-1stalemate against Ngezi Platinum last weekend.
