Danny Phiri Pens Two Year Deal At Golden Arrows

Warriors’ defensive linkman Danny “Deco” Phiri wants to use his imminent move to South African Absa Premiership side Golden Arrows as a spring board to transform his career which is nearing the twilight zone.

The 27-year-old Chicken Inn skipper is joining Golden Arrows on a two-year contract and his manager Gibson Mahachi confirmed the deal was almost done.

“We are 90 percent done,” said Mahachi Wednesday afternoon.

This is a landmark deal for Phiri a veteran of the local league who has never played in a foreign league before.

“It is a step in the right direction for my career and I want to use it as a spring board to better things.

“Talk to my manager about the deal but to me it will be another challenge, so I will keep focused,” said Phiri, who won the 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title with the Gamecocks.

The Chicken Inn Skipper is the reigning Soccer Star of the Year and is part of the history making Zimbabwe Senior men’s football team, the Warriors, who qualified for the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon with a game to spare last month

Phiri made his Premiership debut with Bantu Rovers when they were promoted in 2009 before he moved to Chicken Inn at the beginning of the 2011 season.

The Bulawayo born and bred gritty linkman played his junior football at Railstars and the now defunct Amazulu.

He rose to prominence during the 2014 CHAN finals in South Africa where he was part of the Zimbabwe team that made it to a credible semi-final berth.
