Crisis At Chapungu...Players On Go Slow
Chapungu are on the brink of a crisis with players reportedly on a go slow in protest over non-payment of winning bonuses and deteriorating conditions of service.
The problems which have been simmering at the club over time came to fore after last week’s 1-0 defeat at home to ZPC Kariba at the weekend.
Sources within the team told SportsZone that the players are not happy that they were not being paid winning bonuses as well other amenities.
“The players are not happy that the powers that be at the club are not paying attention to their concerns. The players are not being paid winning bonuses,” said the source.
“Last year the team reached the semi finals of the Chibuku Cup but players were not given anything. Imagine if there is a game in Hwange, Mutare and Kariba, players are made to wake very early in the morning and travel on the same day of the match.
“They will be given just $5 for meals imagine! There are some people who misrepresent issues to the owners of the team lying that army teams are not entitled to bonuses and allowances as players are on payroll.”
The source said the only reason players have not embarked on a strike is that they fear that their strike might be misconstrued to be a ‘mutiny’ since they are on the Airforce payroll and some of them are fully employed as soldiers.
Efforts to get a comment from the club’s executive were fruitless as their mobile phones went answered.
Chapungu are flirting in the relegation zone since the start of the season, sitting on fourth position from bottom with 23 points from 19 games.
