Craven Week Side Suffers Early Setbacks
The Zimbabwe Under-18 rugby squad for this year's edition of the Craven Week has suffered early setbacks as Cuaan Zeederberg and Mazvitaishe Nyamarebvu have been ruled out due to injuries.
The Old Mutual Young Sables are set to get into camp on Thursday, but coach Godwin "Jaws" Murambiwa says the two have serious injuries they would not recover in time for the July Durban games.
“It’s sad Zeederburg and Nyamandebvu are already out of the squad we are announced. Cuan (Zeederberg) suffered a serious knee injury while Nyamarebvu suffered an ankle injury that will see them miss the Craven Week.
“So already we are looking for replacements, we will, however, not be looking for a forward because we have quite a lot of them in our squad but Nyamarebvu would definitely need a replacement.
“I will have a chat with other selectors and we will see how we go about that when we get into camp at Gateway on Thursday,” said Murambiwa.
Murambiwa knows some schools might want to field in players selected for the Craven Week who are injured for their respective league games but he warns he will not entertain such.
“Schools want to win their league games, we know that, but we are also keeping an eye on the injured players if they go on to play with injuries then we are making it clear to them they will not play (for the Under-18 side).”
Some of the players from last year’s side that have been drafted into the provisional squad include Benjamin Meredith and Stuart Dodington, while Jeremy Munyeza and Marcus Nichole, were part of the Under-17 side.
“But there are areas I am happy about and these include the fact that players are fit but we will have a fitness test as well when we get into camp,” said the former Sables coach.
