Craven Week Selection Criteria Altered
The CravenWeek Under-18 selection will take a “slightly different” approach this yearwith measures put in place for all players to play at least one full game duringthe inter-provincials this weekend.
“The structurewe have this year is such that every player will play at least one full gameand also have skill assessment starting with individual, semi-unit and fullunit skill assessment,” said Zimbabwe School Under-18 coach Godwin “Jaws”Murambiwa.
With theinterprovincial tournament – used to select the squad of 30 – on at Lomagundi College staring on Friday, no substitutions are allowed for the first game andon day two all the players who were on the bench would play a full game withsubstitutions limited to those who would have played in the first full game.
“All theplayer will then be involved in skill’s drills where they are assessed inpassing, rucking, scrimmaging and this is part of the selection process we havethis year.
“Theadvantage of this process is that over the years provinces would come with themind of winning and this was at the expense of those who would have beendrafted into the squad as substitutes as they would not play.
“We got alot of value from last year’s selection process but coaches wanted to play theirstrongest sides to the detrimental of the players on the bench.
Six teamswill make up the selection competition.
Harare willfield two teams, a national development side, Central Region (Midlands andMasvingo provinces), Northern Region (Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West andManicaland), Matabeleland (Mat North, Mat South and Bulawayo).
