COSAFA Elections - Odds Against Chiyangwa

Odds are heavily staked against ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa, who has been described as a green horn in football administration, as the 14 Southern African Football Associations gather to elect the COSAFA boss this morning.

The results will be announced at 12:30.

Seychelles FA leader Suketu Patel is the incumbent COSAFA president and is seeking reelection to extend his reign to 14 years having assumed power in 2006 when he replaced Ishmael Bhamjee.

South African FA president Danny Jordan is also in the race.

Mmegi, a Botswana publication claims that an impeccable source has said that Jordan has at least 10 COSAFA member associations backing him.

“Chiyangwa is seen as a green horn in football matters and leads a beleaguered ZIFA which might count against him,” writes Mmegi.

Other nominees for presidential elections sent are Frans Mbidi of Namibia, Mohammed Sobha of Mauritius, Pedro Neto of Angola and Mozambique’s Alberto Junior.

The 14 COSAFA members will also elect the Vice President and five executive members.
