Manchester City climbed to third on the table with a 3-1 win over West Brom, while Alexis Sanchez kept Arsenal's top-four hopes alive as he struck twice in a 2-0 defeat of Sunderland on Tuesday night. 

City brushed aside the mid-table Baggies via goals from Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne and Yaya Toure, with Hal Robson-Kanu bagging a late consolation at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side now need only a point in their final fixture away to Watford on Sunday to secure a UEFA Champions League spot next season.

Meanwhile, Sanchez broke the deadlock against the relegated Black Cats in the 72nd minute of their tie at the Emirates, netting from close range after being played through by German playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The Chilean completed his brace 10 minutes later with another simple finish after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford kept out an initial effort by Olivier Giroud.

The Gunners remain fifth in the standings but are a point behind fourth-placed Liverpool heading into the last round of fixtures.

Arsene Wenger's men host Everton on the weekend and the Reds are up against Middlesbrough at Anfield.
