Chungwa’s Goal Sinks Triangle

Dominic Chungwa scored midway in the second half as CAPS United edged a battling Triangle 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Chungwa’s goal was his 12th of the season and with it now leads the scorer’s charts in the Castle lager PSL.

The Green machine’s frontman could have increased his tally but guilty of missing clear chances.

CAPS dominated the exchanges in the first half but the trio of Chungwa, John Zhuwawu and Zvirekwi failed to bury the chances they got forcing the game to go to the halftime with the teams tied at 0-0.

The second half was no different to the first with the home team playing well again but the goal remained elusive.

It took the introduction of Nigerian, Abarisim Chidiebere who came with a sense of urgency, to force the Triangle defence to crack as they committed needless fouls. From one of the fouls, big goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda’s cracker was parried back into play by Triangle keeper Tapiwa Chilenga and fell fortuitously to Chungwa who made no mistake from close range.

The visitors tried to rally back but CAPS held on to their slender lead and the game ended 1-0 in their favour.

Elsewhere FC Platinum kept their title hopes alive with a crucial 2-1 win over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.

Simon Munawa opened the scoring midway in the first half but the lead was cancelled nine minutes later by veteran forward Mkhokeli Dube. Second half substitute Ali Sadiki scored the winner for the visitors late in the second half and the goal was enough to see FC Platinum getting three points from the contest.
