Chiyangwa's Prayer For Change

ZIFA and Cosafa president Philip Chiyangwa is praying hard that tomorrow’s elective CAF congress ushers in a new leadership after the current regime yesterday made clear their intentions to hunt him down.

At its CAF Executive Committee meeting on Thursday which largely deliberated on the hosting of CAF tournaments, the committee found time to discuss Chiyangwa who stands accused of distabilising the confederation.

Chiyangwa is the campaign manager for Madagascar FA president Ahmad Ahmad who is seeking to dislodge African football strongman Isa Hayatou who has been at the helm since 1988.

The Harare property mogul riled the CAF leadership when he invited several African FA presidents to his birthday bash last month which CAF said was aimed at destabilising the confederation.

“In addition, the CAF Executive Committee unanimously recommended the CAF Disciplinary Board to proceed with the case of COSAFA President, also President of the Federation of Zimbabwe, Mr. Philip Chiyangwa who has multiplied actions and statements recently that appears to attack the honour of the CAF, its president and the members of the Executive Committee,” said CAF in a statement.

The meeting also moved in to defend Hayatou who is facing court action in Egypt for alleged misdemeanors in the awarding of CAF TV rights.

“On the proceedings in Egypt, concerning the contract between CAF and Lagardère Sports for the marketing of the media and marketing rights of certain CAF competitions, the CAF Executive Committee invited the CAF General Secretary to continue the ongoing legal proceedings and reiterated that everything has been done in compliance with the statutes of the CAF, laws and regulations in this matter” said CAF.
