Chiyangwa's Assurance
Embattled ZIFA president Phillip Chiyangwa has assured that the country’s senior national teams will participate in all international competitions they qualified for.
Chiyangwa is in the eye of a storm after his attempts to dissolve ZIFA and replace it with the National Football Association of Zimbabwe (NAFAZ) appear to be hitting a snag.
The Warriors have qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals while the Mighty Warriors are already in camp preparing for a maiden dance at the Olympic Games which kick off in Brazil next month.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association ably led by Dr Phillip Chiyangwa would like to assure the football loving public and the nation at large that our national teams will participate in all international competitions they qualified for.
“Our Senior Men’s national team, the Warriors, will participate in the momentous Gabon 2017 Orange Africa Cup of Nations finals while the Senior women’s national team, the Mighty Warriors will participate in the historic Rio 2016 Olympics and the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon,” said Chiyangwa in a statement.
“We are confident that the legacy of this qualification will spur the growth of women football in Zimbabwe.
“Only the Under 17 national team has been withdrawn from the 2017 Orange U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to budgetary constraints.
“Going forward the Association will assess the costs and benefits of participating in future International tournaments.
