Chiyangwa Lifts Suspension On Uriri
The Zimbabwe Football Association has lifted the suspension on CAPS United chairman Lewis Uriri.
Uriri was suspended last week as the fallout between the Premier Soccer League and ZIFA over the number of teams to be relegated became nasty.
The fallout also saw the suspension of PSL chairman Peter Dube who is also the Highlanders chairman.
Uriri confirmed to SportsZone that his suspension has been lifted.
“My suspension has been lifted. I got a call from the Zifa president telling me that my suspension has been lifted and that we should come up with a common position," said Uriri.
The climb down from the militant position from both parties is said to have been initiated by Sports minister Makhosini Hlongwane who called for truce.
The 'truce' though still not cast in stone will see two teams relegated and four teams promoted into the Castle Lager PSL.
Zifa stuck to their position that four teams will be promoted with Chiyangwa insisting that the mother body sticks to the popular vote.
Football was put into disarray last month when ZIFA councilors voted for the automatic promotion of the four division 1 regional winners, reneging on an earlier agreement to drop the bottom two teams.
The PSL responded to the impasse by appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport while ZIFA on the other hand responded by suspending those deemed to be leading the discerning voices against the promotion of four teams.
