Chiyangwa Laughs Off Arrest Rumours

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Phillip Chiyangwa has laughed off rumours that he has been arrested while trying to sneak out of Zimbabwe with large sums of money.

Speculation is rife on social media that Chiyangwa is one of the “criminals” being hunted down by the new political dispensation seeking to weed out all alleged corrupt elements that had surrounded former President Robert Mugabe.

An annoyed Chiyangwa spoke to ZIFA.org and said he was in South Africa on the day of his purported arrest.

“Newsagents are desperate for news that they can even manufacture flagrant lies that defies logic.  They say I was arrested on Saturday, the same day I was in Pretoria watching Supersport and Mazembe. How is that possible?” he asked rhetorically.

The COSAFA boss maintained his conscience was clear as he had done nothing wrong to warrant the rumours awash on social media.

“I am a businessman and football boss. I have never been involved in any chicanery and would not want to justify people’s agendas by delving into such mischief.”
