Chiyangwa In Trouble As Two Board Members Resign

TWO Zifa board members Piraishe Mabhena and Felton Kamambo have resigned with immediate effect from the Philip Chiyangwa-led administration.

The two are citing lack of legitimacy after the expiry of the duration for which they were collectively elected into office as a board.

Mabhena was in charge of the Zifa club licensing arm First Instance Body as well as Competitions while Kamambo was in charge of Player Status Committee as well as Fustal and beach football.

The latest development is likely to cripple the association’s operations given that there are now only three remaining members of the board in president Chiyangwa, his deputy Omega Sibanda and Philemon Machana.

The other members who left and were not replaced include Peter Dube, women football representative Rosemary Kanonge and the late Edzai Kasinauyo.

Mabhena and Kamambo become the latest high profile figures to leave the Chiyangwa administration by tendering their resignation letters and more importantly admitting that the current Zifa board’s continued stay in the corridors of power within the country’s football administration body is not only a violation of standing statutes but also a betrayal of the councilors who elected them.

In his letter of resignation, addressed to the association’s chief executive and copied to the board, the Zifa Congress and the Sports and Recreation Commission which this newspaper is in possession of, the former Zifa Eastern Region chairman, Mabhena notes that their mandate obtained at the December 5, 2015 by election, ends on March 28.

“By copy of this letter, please be advised that I shall be stepping down from the position of Zifsa board member effective 28 March, 201. I am alive to the fact that the mandate given to me by the Zifa Congress at the by election on the 5th of December 2015 ends on this said date.

“I would like to thank the Zifa president Dr Philip Chiyangwa, my fellow board members, the Zifa secretariat and most importantly, the Zifa Councilors, who trusted and voted for me to represent them on the board, I am forever indebted to them!

“It has been a pleasure and an honour to have been part of the Zifa board. I am so proud of the work that we put in under very difficult financial challenges but I would also like to concede that there is still so much work to be done if we are to compete with the best in the world of football,” reads part of the resignation letter from the Chiredzi based football administrator
