'Chitiyo Failed At Harare City'
HARARE City are not losing sleep over the departure of star midfielder Ronal "Rooney" Chitiyo who is now at league champions CAPS United.
Chitiyo, one of the most creative midfielders on the domestic scene, made a last minute switch to Makepekepe on December 31, 2016 and was immediately included in the club’s squad for the 2017 Caf Champions League.
The midfield dynamo’s departure came barely a month after Harare City fired coach Moses Chunga who had begun introducing some exciting and youthful players.
Chunga has since been replaced by his former assistant Mkupali Masuku who is also Kallisto Pasuwa’s deputy at the Warriors.
However, City vice chairman Stanley Ndemera believes all is not lost at the Town House and is confident The Sunshine Boys can challenge for honours in the 2017 season.
Ndemera actually thinks Chitiyo did not have an impact at Harare City football club.
“We are solid at Harare City and we are not losing sleep over the departure of Chitiyo.
“Rooney did not have an impact at our club after he got injured upon his arrival,” said Ndemera.
“We are happy that he has given a chance to other players. We did not achieve anything with him. We have a team in Division One with good players and we are going to promote them.
The team has a solid foundation as they are in charge of a number of schools in Harare with former Dynamos coach Elvis”Chuchu” Chiweshe at the helm of the developmental programme.
“Our objective to have a number of players who can represent Zimbabwe at any level that is why we have a number of junior teams.
“We have a number of players who are going to get promoted to the first team.
“We have all the infrastructure and we have the schools in Harare which are producing the players.”
Harare City finished the season on the 9th position with just 39 points in a year they also represented Zimbabwe in the 2016 Caf Confederation Cup and bowed out at the first round stage.
