Chitima bounces back into mainstream football
FORMER Gunners’ owner Cuthbert Chitima has bounced back into mainstream football as the Caps United acting chief executive officer.
Chitima takes over from Joe Makuvire, who was relieved of his duties, according to the club’s board member responsible for marketing Alois Bunjira.
“Chitima is our acting chief executive officer,” said Bunjira.
Chitima, whose Gunners won the Premiership title in 2009, was part of the Caps United entourage for the league match they lost 1-2 to How Mine at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.
Chitima’s Gunners was taken over by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Prophet Walter Magaya and renamed Yadah FC.
They now play in the Zifa Northern Region Division One League and posted an emphatic 5-1 win over Gutu at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe believes it’s still too early to talk about the championship at this stage of the season.
Speaking after their loss to a fired up How Mine on Saturday, Chitembwe, who had on Friday told a press conference in Harare that he wants to surpass their 1996 points haul, said there were still 24 more games to play.
“It will be irresponsible from a coaching point of view to start talking about the championship now. We have played just six games and there are 24 more to play. We need to look after our performances and we will be irresponsible if we talk about the championship now,” said Chitembwe.
He said he was happy with the performance of his players so far, despite the loss on Saturday that saw them slipping from pole position to third place, three points behind leaders FC Platinum.
They are tied on 13 points with second placed Highlanders, who have a better goal difference.
“I’m happy with our play so far; you can’t fault these boys for the effort they put up. They have done a good job for us so far; we knew that one day we will lose, as there is no team that can dominate the entire season, but generally we are happy so far,” said Chitembwe.
