WARRIORS’ goalkeeper George Chigova made some crucial saves but the giant goalie could not prevent his side Polokwane from exiting the MTN 8 Cup.

Polokwane lost 0-1 to Cape Town City after Sinuses Mbonambi made a serious blunder with under 10 minutes to go in the first half, sending a header over Chigova and into his own net after good pressure from a Citizens corner. 

Chi ova’s first save came after a quarter of an hour, when Major did well to break Polokwane City offside trap, but his shot was saved by Chigova.

Major had the ball in the back of the net after a tantalising low cross from Lyle Lakay in the 26th minute, but the linesman made a tight call for off-side.

10 minutes into the second stanza Majoro did well to lose his marker before firing an effort goal ward, but Chigova easily blocked the low effort without needing to move.

At the other end, Tlolane and Jabu Maluleke exchanged a neat one-two to break into the home side's box, but the former's shot was straight at Walters.

Shortly after the hour-mark, Thapelo Tshila made an excellent block with his hands, which referee Daniel Bennett was completely oblivious to, to deny Lebogang Manyama's goalbound effort.

Ayanda Patosi then came on for his debut in the 66th minute, and almost made his mark immediately as his dipping shot narrowly went wide of the target.

With just over 20 minutes to go, the visitors were kept on their toes inside their box as Manyama's effort was blocked and Patosi's rebound shot save by Chigova, before Lakay sent the third consecutive effort wide of the mark.
