CHICKEN Inn failed to capitalise after Dynamos and FC Platinum dropped points on the road as they settled for a share of the spoils in a breakfast kick-off at Nyamhunga on Sunday.

The two teams were supposed to play on Saturday but the match was postponed to Sunday morning following a water-logged outfield at Nyamhunga Stadium.

Visiting coach Rahman Gumbo was happy with a point gained away from home although three points could have helped shore up the Gamecocks in their title aspirations.

“This is an important point for us as it keeps us in the race for the championship. It’s a hard-won point after the match was rescheduled to this morning and we are not used to playing in the morning.

“We had to psyche up the players as they thought that the match could not kick off,” said Gumbo.

The Gamecocks remained in fourth position on the log standings with 56 points, four away from the leading pack with four games remaining this season.

Chicken Inn showed their intent of collecting points and veteran striker Obadiah Tarumbwa could have put his side ahead in the third minute when he charged from the centre line and released a blistering shot which was parried by goalkeeper Tendai Hove.

Nine minutes later, the action shifted to the other end of goal where Talent Chamboko’s powerful shot was saved by Elvis Chipezeze after he was released by Francisco Zekumbawire.

The match at times turned physical and hosts ZPC Kariba had three players Never Tigere, Bornface Zubhero and Tawanda Nyamandwe cautioned by referee Norman Matemera.

ZPC Kariba are fighting for a top-eight finish and their coach Sunday Chidzambwa said they gained a point.

“This is a very important point after we had lost to Bantu Rovers last week. Today the boys played very well although we could not create more scoring opportunities,” he said.
