Chibuku Thirsty Akbay In Double Agony

Highlanders coach Erol Akbay was left disappointed after his side suffered the double agony of being dumped out of the Chibuku Cup and also ending their nine match winning streak.

Highlanders who are in the running for the league title were hoping before the match for a league and cup double this season but suffered a heartache losing 1-0 to Ngezi Platinum at Barbourfields stadium.

The usually dependable Peter Muduhwa who had a subdued game gifted Ngezi Platinum with an opportunity when he handled inside the box and Liberty Chakoroma converted in the 63rd minute.

"I am really disappointed with this result because we lost despite creating a lot of chances especially in the first half. If you don't score you lose and that was a genuine penalty because the defender went with his hands open. and it's also disappointing for a defender to go for the ball with his hands open," said Akbay.

Highlanders had their fair share of chances as the first half wore but lacked precision in front of goal. Even the introduction of the super substitute Ralph Matema towards the end of the match failed to produce the magic that had seen them score towards the end in the previous matches.

Ngezi Platinum will now meet fellow platinum miners FC Platinum in an all Platinum final on November 5 at a venue still to be announced.
