Cheetahs Win Inaugural Kwese Sports Victoria Falls Sevens

ZIMBABWE won the inaugural Kwese Sports Victoria Falls Sevens with a 24-7 triumph over Namibia in an entertaining Cup final played at Victoria Falls Primary School on Sunday.

It was an unbelievable end to the tournament which saw the Gilbert Nyamutsamba coached Cheetahs only let in just one try the whole competition.

The Cheetahs scored four tries and two conversions on their way to victory. Takudzwa Chieza started off the scoring in the second minute of the match, swopping on loose ball to plant the ball over the line, skipper Hilton Mudariki added the extra two points with a successful conversion kick.

Stephan Hunduza chipped in with the second try, exploiting a gap in the Namibian defence to dot the ball down, Mudariki unsuccessful with the conversion for the Cheetahs to lead 12-0 heading into the halftime break.

Namibian skipper Nandivatu Karuuombe gave his team some hope of launching a comeback when he scored a try two minutes after the break which was converted by Jandre du Toit. Zimbabwe got their third try two minutes after, season Gardner Nechironga going over but Mudariki saw his conversion kick go wide off the posts.

Nelson Madida, one of the outstanding players making their Cheetahs debut in the tournament finished a fine display over the two days when he powered his way over the line to score the fourth try for Zimbabwe with Mudariki’s conversion successful to give the Cheetahs a well-deserved victory.

On their way to the final, the Cheetahs saw off the Goshawks 24- 0 in the semifinals while Namibia came back from 19-7 down to beat Zambia 21-19 in the other last four fixture.  Zambia went on to win the Plate, the Bowl went to Zambia A with Botswana winning the Shield.
