Chapungu Wary Of Chitora
Chapungu are wary of the threat posed by striker Tineyi Chitora when they host ZPC Kariba at Ascot stadium on Saturday. The nomadic Chitora who is on loan at ZPC Kariba was Chapungu’s top striker last season with 11 goals and the Airforce side are oblivious of the danger that he poses.
“Chitora is a lethal striker in front of goal. He is our player on loan to ZPC Kariba and we know what he is capable of doing. We will not allow him any chance because we know he can cause trouble for us,” said Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino.
Nyikadzino said his side was seeking to continue their dominance over ZPC Kariba since the power utility side gained promotion into the premiership in 2014 with Chapungu losing 1-0 in their first meeting at Gwanzura stadium in 2014 before winning the reverse fixture 3-0 at Ascot stadium. Last season they drew nil all at Kariba before Chapungu beat ZPC Kariba 2-1 at Ascot stadium.
“We want to maintain our good home record against them in which we have collected maximum points in our previous meetings at Ascot stadium. Our focus remains to finish in the top eight, so we want to continue collecting maximum points at home. It’s good that we have now gained consistency at home since our victory against Chicken Inn and this is giving the players confidence,” he said.
Chitora scored the winning goal in the last clash between the two teams turning out for the Airforce side.
Waru Waru will as usual look up to Allan Tavarwisa for goals. The stocky forward scored two goals in the last two of the three home matches taking his season’s tally to four goals. Lively winger Xolani Ncube, midfielders Frank Bushiri and Gift Phiri are some of the players that can sway the match in Chapungu’s favour.
ZPC Kariba are hard pressed for a victory after having gone for a number of matches without a win.
