Chapungu registered their first ever win over Harare City with a 2-1 victory at Ascot stadium on Friday.

Chapungu continued to enjoy the exchanges for the better part of the first half before Harare City took control in the last few minutes.
Harare City came close through William Manondo, Farai Madhanhanga and Raphael Manuvire but were denied by the impressive Chapungu goalkeeper Roy Mazingi.
Harare City seized control of the second half trying to restore parity and pulled one back on the half hour mark through substitute Jerry Chipangura. Ronald Chitiyo send in a looping cross from the right which eluded the Chapungu defence. Chipangura who was lurking on the far side had a speculative header which caught Mazingi flat footed.
With Harare City piling the pressure in search of an equalizer, Chapungu started frustrating Harare City, slowing the tempo of the match and held on for the victory.
Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino who was taking charge of his 83rd PSL game was elated after posting his first victory over Harare City.
“This is a crucial win for us because we got the much needed points and also that we recorded our first victory over Harare City. Credit should go to the players for showing so much character.
“They really needed to win, they fought for every ball and were resolute even when Harare City wanted to come back into the match,” said Nyikadzino.
Harare City coach Moses Chunga blamed his charges for going into the match underrating their opponents.
“We went into the match with a wrong attitude in the first half and conceded those two goals.
“We tried to rectify it in the second half but it was late because we could not score more goals,” said Chunga.
