CAPS Win Claims Zamalek Coach's Job

Egyptian giants Zamalek fired their coach Augusto Inacio on Sunday after the five-time African champions were left staring exit from this year’s CAF Champions League with the 1-3 defeat to CAPS United.

Zamalek, who were runners up last year, are in danger of missing a quarter final berth this year following a poor run which has seen them drop to bottom of the table with one game remaining in the group stage.

Club Mortada Mansour told Egyptian media yesterday that Inacio has been relieved of his duties with the decision now waiting the approval of the board.

The White Knights’ fate is out of their hands as they will need to beat Tripoli in the last game and hope that USM Alger force CAPS United to drop points.

They needed victory in Harare to enhance their chances of qualifying to the last eight after the joint group leaders USM Alger and Al Ahli Tripoli had played a 1-1 draw last Friday.

But they found the hosts in a mean mood with Abbas Amidu scoring a brace late in the game to seal the win for Makepekepe after Ronald Pfumbidzai had scored the opener in the first half. Nigerian Stanley Ohawuchi gave the Knights a consolation goal before half time.
