Caps United Unfazed
ZIMBABWE football champions Caps United are bullish as they prepare to take on five time African champions TP Mazembe in the first round of the African Champions League on Sunday.
United saw off the challenge of Lesotho minnows Lioli in the preliminary round of African football’s premier club tournament to book a date against the current holders of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Coach Lloyd Chitembwe told a news briefing this afternoon that his men are not concentrating on their nemesis’ rich history but are rather focusing on their own strengths.
“What we focus on is our commitment and determination, (to win the tie), that’s more important as far as we are concerned.
“As for them winning the African Champions League 10 times (or) 15 times we don’t really care,” Chitembwe said.
Chitembwe also refused to be cowed into submission by their host’s reputation of being ruthless at home saying his men are yet to witness Mazembe’s wrath and thus will not worry with what they don’t know.
“We haven’t experienced that (Mazembe’s brilliance at home), am sure they are just a football team, very competitive team and for us I am sure we have done well in terms of trying to match them. . . . and this is the reason why these boys have been working very hard and I am sure they are ready to compete come Sunday,” he said.
