Caps United To Camp In Mozambique
ZIMBABWE soccer kings Caps United will once again hold their pre-season training in Mozambique as they gear up for the 2017 Caf Champions League.
Makepekepe camped in the neighboring country before the start of last season and went on to win the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.
The team regrouped for the 2017 season on Tuesday at the National Sports Stadium but as reported by The Herald, it was a low key event as most senior players did not turn up.
United’s high profile signing Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo was at the National Sports and so was the gangly defender Last Sithole who also joined the Green Machine.
“I can confirm to you that we will be leaving to Mozambique for pre season training.
“We are still working on the modalities but by the end of the week we would have finalised something,” said Cuthbert Chitima, the CAPS United chief executive officer.
The trip to Mozambique is reportedly being facilitated by a company called Soccer Transfer International which also confirmed the Mozambique trip.
“We are facilitating the trip and the champions will play about six games. We feel that our company also played a bigger role for CAPS United to win the championship
‘We organised their pre-season camp in Mozambique which is one of the most favoured country by clubs in Africa.
“Azam of Tanzania, TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa have been to Mozambique and I feel the conditions there are very good,’ said George Deda, the owner of the company.
The Zimbabwean champions are expected to play a minimum of four games in Mozambique.
They are expected to play Grupo Desportivo de Maputo, HB Songo, Desportivo e Recreativoda Textafrica do Chimoio before winding down with a mouthwatering clash against Mozambican champions Ferroviario Beira.
Deda has been behind a number of recent player transfers including the deal that took Abbas Amidu to Caps United last season.
Amidu is however yet to renew his contract which expired on December 31, 2016.
