CAPS United, The Most ill-Disciplined Team
Caps United are not only leading league on the log standings but are also leading on the other front as they are the worst disciplined team in the league.
Teams, especially mining ones, have often been criticised for playing "dirty" football, not playing in the spirit of the game but Caps United have proved that they can do even worse, according to statistics released by the Premier Soccer League.
Despite leading on the log standings and having the leading scorer in Leonard Tsipa, Caps United are the most ill-disciplined team in the league with 41yellow cards awarded to their players, while 1 player received an instant red card and a further 10 points for delayed kickoff while also accumulating 130 points through disciplinary fines taking the tally to 355 points – the most out of any club.
Basement side Border Strikers are the second most rogue club after notching up 43 sanctions, while two of their players were also shown red and a further 60 points eroded by disciplinary fines.
The only two other teams that broke the 40-yellow-card barrier are Triangle with 46 bookings, Bulawayo City on 44, Ngezi Platinum Stars with 41 and Chicken Inn with 40 yellows to their name.
Hwange are the team with the least disciplinary issues, accumulating the fewest amount of yellow cards (23), while three players were sent off but no other fine has been handed down to the Colliery based side.
There are some sides not to have had players sent off but were unfortunate to have had their players cautioned. Tsholotsho, Harare City, Ngezi and Highlanders have not seen red this season.
The rankings are determined by a points system that the PSL use with a yellow card accumulating five points while a red card gets your team ten points and a team that does not have name tags gets five points. Delaying a match kicking off, not using dressing rooms, using undesignated entry points and missing the sponsor’s logo gets a team ten points each.
There also some standing order fines or conviction by the PSL disciplinary committee which ranges between five and 30 points.
The team that accumulates the least number of points wins the award which carries a sum of $10 000 at the end of the season.
