Caps United Suffer Humiliating Defeat
CAPS UNITED suffered one of the worst Champions League defeats by a Zimbabwean team in Harare when they fell 2-4 to visiting Al Ahli Tripoli at the National Sports on Friday.
Al Ahli raced to a 3-0 half time lead courtesy goals by Sameh Debbali (penalty), Muaid Salam and Salem Abro.
It got worse for Caps United when Al Ahli scored the fourth late in the second half.
Makepekepe attempted a late recovery but could only get two goals through Ronald Pfumbidzai (penalty) and a Hardlife Zvirekwi header.
The absence of centre back Dennis Dauda and experienced keeper Edmore Sibanda, both through injury, disturbed Caps United’s backline and coach Lloyd Chitembwe admitted he missed the duo after the game.
“I am very very disappointed with the result but we learnt some few lessons. The competition is tough but I have to applaud my boys for the effort.
“We had injuries and most of the players did not train during the week. We had poor preparations for this game,” said Chitembwe.
