
Caps United Step Up Champions League Preps
Zimbabwean soccer kings Caps United stepped up their preparations for the CAF Champions League with an intensive training session at Zifa Village on Thursday morning that was overseen by former national U23 coach Nelson Matongorere and Zifa technical director Taurai Mangwiro.
Mangwiro and Matongorere are conducting the CAF A License course at the same venue and used Makepekepe’s training session for some illustrations.
Caps United host Mozambican champions Ferroviario Beira on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium as they gear up for the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against FC Lioli of Lesotho in Maseru during the weekend of 10-12 February.
The return fixture will be played at the National Sports a week later.
Makepekepe are using Zifa Village’s artificial turf because FC Lioli also use the same surface.
2016 Golden Boot winner Leonard Tsipa who has been linked with a move to Tanzania was in the thick of things, so was Devon Chafa and new signing Ronald Chitiyo.
Edmore “Zikeeper” Sibanda, Ronald Pfumbidzai, Dennis Dauda, Justice Jangano, Phineas Bamusi, Joel Ngodzo, Simba Nhivi, Abbas Amidu and Dominic Chungwa were some of the regular faces that took part.
New centre back Last Sithole, who joined United from FC Platinum was also present.
Livewire winger Tafadzwa Rusike was absent as he is recovering from an injury.
