CAPS United Reduce Gap As Highlanders And Dynamos Keep Pressure

CAPS United beat Triangle 2-1 at Gibbo Stadium on Sunday afternoon to come within a point of log leaders FC Platinum who drew 1-1 with ZPC Kariba on Saturday.

Leonard Tsipa opened the scoring with a header 37 minutes into the game as CAPS United went to the breather leading 1-0. Nelson Mazivisa brought Triangle level as he scored on the hour mark, however midfielder Kudzai Nyamupfukudza ensured Makepekepe stayed within touching distance of log leaders FC Platinum as he struck with five minutes to fulltime as the game finished 2-1 in favour of CAPS United.

Wisdom Celebrates

At Rufaro Stadium, a 14th minute Wisdom Mutasa goal was enough to earn Dynamos maximum points as they completed a double over Chapungu with a 1 nill win. Dynamos beat the airmen 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Ascot Stadium in June where seven of their supporters died on the spot while another one succumbed to the injuries the following day when an Iveco bus they were travelling in burst a rear tyre and veered off the road near Battle Fields.

Save

Chapungu could have left Rufaro with a point after being awarded a penalty by referee Nomore Musundire after Marshal Machazane had fouled Philip Marufu in the box in the 52nd minute. Tafadzwa Mombeshora’s resultant penalty was saved by Ashley Reyners as Dynamos saw out the rest of the match with the lead.

Elsewhere, Nhlanhla Ndlovu was Highlanders hero as his 90th minute goal ensured maximum points for Highlanders against Border Strikers at Dulibadzimu Stadium. Angolan national Tabwe Kalunga put the home side in front with a 12th minute goal but ageless striker Ralph Matema equalised for Bosso in the 69th minute before Ndlovu scored the sucker punch right at the dearth as Highlanders won 2-1.
