CAPS United In Dramatic Win, Maintains Pressure On Platinum
Dominic Chungwa rose from the bench to score the winner in optional time as CAPS United edged How Mine 3-2 in dramatic fashion at the National Sports stadium to maintain pressure on log leaders FC Platinum.
CAPS United threatened to run riot in the first half in which they scored twice through Dennis Dauda and leading scorer Leonard Tsipa but How Mine came back stronger towards the end of the match.
Godfrey Nguwodzawo who came in as a first half substitute for disappointing young Tinashe Makanda poked home from close range nineteen minutes from time.
How Mine continued piling pressure and were rewarded with a minute before the end of the game when Dennis Dauda pulled back goal bound Toto Banda in the penalty box.
Milton Ncube took the resultant penalty sending Jorum Muchambo the wrong way.
Hardly had How Mine finished celebrating, Chungwa headed in a corner kick from impressive left back Ronald Pfumbidzai who was involved in all the three goals.
Lloyd Chitembwe the CAPS United coach was delighted by his team’s fighting spirit and reckoned that his club will look back at the victory as one that will come in handy with a telling decision on their title destiny.
“I think it was very vital for us to collect the three points to keep the pressure on the log leaders. I think it was a game of two halves, in first half was absolutely perfect and the second was not as perfect as the first half,” said Chitembwe.
“But I was impressed by the resilience, and character shown by the players. What is important for us is to continue winning the games without looking at what FC Platinum are doing.”
How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu was disappointed with the defeat after it looked like they were going to snatch a point from the match.
“We started very low, we conceded all the goals from set pieces. I am very disappointed that we came from two goals down but failed to capitalise on CAPS United weaknesses. But was very disappointed that we lost concentration and conceded again from a set piece,” said Kaindu.
