CAPS United Fire Blanks

Defending champions CAPS United were luck to leave Maglas stadium with a point after playing second fiddle to returnees Shabanie in a goalless stalemate.

Shabanie Mine reeling from financial problems looked so poor in their attire with a kit that resembled a high school team but turned on the heat on the field of playing outsmarting their more fancied opponents.

The Chinda Boys dominated playing for the better of the match but it was in the second half in which they were unlucky not to score on numerous occasions.

Tinashe Mupumha hit the upright with a rising shot from a distance in the 65th minute while Tafadzwa Chimoyo shot agonisingly wide from close after being teed up by Collins Dhuwa.

Shabanie looked solid at the back where veteran defender William Mapfumo marshalled Leonard Tsipa out of the game while Trevor Mavhunga was compact in midfield bossing the usually reliable CAPS duo of Captain Moses Muchenje and Devon Chafa with aplomb.

Farai

Farai Mupasiri rewinded the clock back to 2011 when he burst on to the scene with Dynamos showing much potential. Mupasiri was too hot to handle for the CAPS United defence and they had to resort to rough tactics to contain him with Chafa lucky to escape punishment from a too lenient referee Brighton Chimene. Mupasiri had to leave the field of play in the second half after a nasty tackle from Muchenje. But the former Dynamos striker was also guilty of missing a number of free headers.

CAPS United briefly seized control of the match following the introduction of Joel Ngodzo for Chafa late in second half. Ngodzo began dictating pace, knocking the ball and Makepekepe nearly got a goal ten minutes from time when Ngodzo squared the ball to Ronald Chitiyo whose low shot was pushed out for a corner by Shabanie goalkeeper Samuel Mafukidze.
