CAPS United Claim Top Spot
CAPS United leapfrogged FC Platinum to the top of the Castle Larger premier league after a convincing 3-1 win away to Border Strikers at Dulivhadzimu stadium.
CAPS United had, for the better part of the campaign trailed FC Platinum but took advantage of the latter’s slump against Harare City on Saturday to go top of the log standings after showing character at Dulivhadzimu where some big guns have struggled.
Leonard Tsipa, Simba Nhivi and Tafadzwa Rusike all scored as CAPS United opened a two point lead going into the last four matches of the season.
Tsipa, who is also chasing a personal accolade as the golden boot winner, ensured that CAPS United settled well into the match when he scored early into the first half.
Farai Mususunye responded immediately for Border Strikers but Nhivi and Rusike scored towards the end of both halves to subdue Strikers whose coach Luke Masomere had declared before the match that his team was going to win the match.
At Rufaro stadium, pale Dynamos continued with their stuttering as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hwange who had arrived in Harare in on the day of the match after having spent the whole week without training due to an industrial action over unpaid salaries.
Takunda Sadiki gave Dynamos hope when pounced from just outside the box, 12 minutes into the match but Oscar Lungu equalised with a beautiful strike towards the end of the first half.
Sipho Dube scored the only goal of the match as Bulawayo City beat outgoing champions Chicken 1-0 at Barbourfields stadium.
