Caps Trophy Parade Brings City To A Standstill
CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League champions paraded their trophy across Harare’s high density suburbs Saturday afternoon before bringing the capital city’s Central Business District to a standstill around 4PM.
The open top bus parade started in Mabvuku-Tafara, went to Chitungwiza where the populous St Mary’s township was the hub before the convoy proceeded to Mbare via Simon Mazorodze Way.
In Mbare the bus passed through Stodart Hall and Mbare Musika before the procession continued into the city centre.
Hundreds of Caps United supporters, some hanging precariously on the doors of speeding cars captured the attention across the city.
“It was a wonderful day for us. We wanted to share the moment with our fans,” said Cuthbert Chitima, Caps United chief executive officer.
Makepekepe won the 2016 league title last Saturday after beating Chapungu 1-0 at Ascot to finish the season on 63 points, two ahead of FC Platinum.
This is United’s first league title in 11 years and their fifth overall.
Newly crowned Soccer Star of the Year, Hardlife Zvirekwi also showcased his trophy.
