CAPS Legend Speaks On Title Race
2004 Soccer Star of the Year Cephas Chimedza, the heartbeat of the Caps United side that won back to back Premiership titles under Charles Mhlauri 11 years ago, has been impressed by the character of the current Makepekepe squad and believes his former side will fight "till the end" for the 2016 championship.
Chimedza has set up base in Belgium but follows the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with keen interest and was impressed by Caps United’s smash and grab 3-2 win over How Mine at the National Sports last Sunday.
With the game seemingly headed for a 2-2 draw after How Mine had equalized in the 89th minute, Dominic Chungwa headed home the winner right at the death to keep Caps United in hot pursuit of log leaders FC Platinum.
Makepekepe, who are out of the Chibuku Super Cup whose quarterfinal clashes are on this weekend, trail Pure Platinum Play by a point with five games to go.
“I haven’t seen this Caps United play for long but they showed character in their last win, which is a good thing,” Chimedza told SportsZone.
The Caps United legend sees an exciting finale to the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race but also feels FC Platinum has a slight edge.
“Yes, Caps United will fight till the end but unfortunately the ball in FC Platinum’s court. It is advantage Platinum because they have more points.
“It’s exciting,” said Chimedza.
Caps United will play Border Strikers (away), Dynamos (home), Harare City (away), Ngezi Platinum Stars (home) and Chapungu (away) in the last five rounds.
FC Platinum will face Harare City (away), Ngezi Platinum (home), Chapungu (away), Highlanders (home) and Tsholotsho (away).
