CAPS Gross 73k
CAPS United got one of their biggest crowds in years and grossed $73 483 from the gates on Sunday when they hosted Congolese giants TP Mazembe in a CAF Champions League tie at the National Sports Stadium.
The figure surpassed what they grossed in their most attended games last season but they had to take home a truncated net of $21 286 after deductions.
A total of 13 528 fans paid their way into the stadium as a strong home crowd rallied behind the Green Machine to achieve a historic feat in progressing to the group stage of the tournament for the first time at the expense of favourites TP Mazembe.
But as usual the club only settled slightly above a quarter of the total earnings after the traditional deductions chewed 38 percent of gross amount.
There was the usual debiting of 15 percent which goes towards the stadium levy, six percent Sports Commission levy.
More deductions were done for CAF and ZIFA levies while the costs of police and security fees dwindled the purse further down.
Makepekepe, who are set to get a minimum of $550 000 for reaching the CAF Champions League group stages, still smiled all the way to the bank with the small windfall.
Club chief executive Cuthbert Chitima said despite hiking the cheapest ticket to $5, they still enjoyed some commendable support.
“We are more than happy. We are happy for our fans, for the support and we really appreciate.
“Our supporters are beginning to come to the stadium and this has got to do with results we are getting.
“As long as we continue to play well, I am sure that the fans will keep coming in their numbers,” said Chitima.
