CAPS Drink To Chibuku Quarters At Baobab

Chibuku Super Cup defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars were knocked out in the first round by defending league Champions CAPS United 0-1 at Baobab Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Moses Muchenje’s first-half penalty earned the Green Machine passage into the last eight of the knockout competition.

The defending champions started brightly as they forced two corner kicks in the first ten minutes and could have taken the lead ten minutes into the game through Davison Pavari but his long range shot was easily smothered by an alert Prosper Chigumba in goal for CAPS.

The pendulum quickly swung the Green Machine’s way as they benefitted from nasty play by Ngezi’s Mclive Phiri who crudely brought down Phenias Bamusi inside the penalty box with referee Ruzive Ruzive pointing to the spot. Former skipper, Moses Muchenje punished Ngezi as he sent Takabva Mawaya the wrong way to give CAPS the advantage.

The goal ignited Makepekepe as they started dictating the pace until the end of the game.
