Can Caps Maintain Dominance Over Dynamos?
All is set for the much awaited Commander ZNA Charities Shield semi final clash between rivals Caps United and Dynamos at the National Sports on Sunday.
With the other semi final between Highlanders and FC Platinum now off because of a water logged Barbourfields, all the attention is in Harare where DeMbare are all out for revenge having failed to beat Makepekepe in the league last season.
DeMbare lost 0-1 in their first league meeting of 2016 before they let slip a 3-0 lead and ended up drawing 3-3 in the second leg at the National Sports.
Caps United went on to clinch the league title while Dynamos finished fifth – their worst position in a decade.
And Sunday’s match presents DeMbare with an early opportunity to get back at their arch rivals in a game coach Lloyd Mutasa could try out his new players.
Mutasa is rebuilding following the departure of Tatenda Mkuruva, Dominic Mukandi, Brett Amidu and Godknows Murwira.
Roderick Mutuma, Stephen Alimenda, Jacob Muzokomba and Sydney Linyama were offloaded.
On the other end, Makepekepe would want to use this match to prepare for their CAF Champions League first round first leg clash against TP Mazembe during the weekend of 10-12 March.
United are beaming with confidence and in new signing Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo, Makepekepe fans seem to have found a new darling.
Chitiyo scored the winning goal against FC Lioli last weekend when United beat the Lesotho champions 2-1 in a CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg clash at the National Sports.
Chitiyo is enjoying life at Caps United where he has reunited with former Dynamos teammates Simba Nhivi and Devon Chafa.
The ZNA Charities match could also give Makepekepe coach Lloyd Chitembwe a chance to try out other possible midfield combinations in the wake of Cabby Kamhapa’s newly found form.
There are some who now feel the former Triangle and Chicken Inn man is better than Joel “Josta” Ngodzo after his performances in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Chitembwe can also throw into the fray veteran striker Leonard Tsipa who has not been playing in the Champions League.
Tsipa was not included in Caps United’s Champions League squad as it appeared he would a get a foreign move.
