Bulawayo City Technical Appear In Court

Bulawayo City assistant coach, Farai Mujokoro and kit manager, Gift Mvala were on Friday summoned to appear before the same court for trial on August 19 facing bribery charges following a failed match-fixing attempt.

For attempting to fix results in a match against Border Strikers on Wednesday, the duo were summoned pending further investigations into the matter.

Mujokoro, who took to flight during half time on Wednesday afternoon, handed himself to Beitbridge police on Thursday afternoon, while Mvala was arrested at Dulivahdzimu on Wednesday.

Mujokoro is accused of bribing Border Strikers goal minder with $300, so that he would let them win the match with four goals.

According to a leaked text trail between Mujokoro and Sundae, the $300 was to be collected by the latter’s sister from one Gift Mvala who is Bulawayo City kit manager.

Mvala walked into a trap before kickoff, when he handed over to Border Strikers treasurer Gift Jera who was in the company of a lady who paused as Sunday’s sister.

The matter was reported to police before kickoff forcing Mujokoro to disappear from Beitbridge during halftime.

Bulawayo City’s vice chairman, Zenzo Moyo has since called on the police to thoroughly investigate the allegations.

“As a team we don’t tolerate match fixing. Football should be the winner and the responsible authorities should conduct investigations into the allegations. We are yet to get full details around the matter,”he said.

Border Strikers goal keeper, Sundae said he was disturbed when Mujokoro approached him and he alerted his superiors who then set the trap.

“I am still young and I want to build a career based on integrity.

Such corrupt tendencies are destroying the game of football in the country. I hope authorities will deal decisively with this issue” he said.
