BPL Wrap: City Sweep Past Hammers

Raheem Sterling opened and closed the scoring as Pep Guardiola's mellifluous Manchester City side beat West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Manchester City made a thunderous start to the game and stormed to a two-goal lead in the first 20 minutes, with Raheem Sterling tucking home the opener after a fluid move before Fernandinho headed home from a delicious free kick courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne.

It was a first half in which City were absolutely dominant and could have scored more, so they would have been a bit concerned when Michail Antonio powered home a header to pull one back from Arthur Masuaku's cross in the 58th minute.

But the Citizens always looked the better side and, with the clock ticking down, wrapped it up in added time when Sterling rounded Adrian and slotted home to secure the three points that take City top of the Premier League standings.

West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

Sunday's only other fixture saw newly promoted Middlesbrough continue their good run in the top flight as they restricted West Brom to a goalless draw at The Hawthorns.

The result sees Boro move up to sixth, while the Baggies also moved up to 10th, after three rounds of fixtures.
